Korakonui School - Small enough to care yet big enough to challenge and inspire

Level 2 Guidelines

7th September 2021
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Please find below our Updated COVID Alert Level 2 Guidelines. It is critical that all families read the information contained within very carefully. We have worked hard to adhere to the guidelines provided for us by the Ministry of Health and Education to try and ensure the well being and safety of your children, whilst at the same time trying to ensure learning is not significantly impacted upon.

Please pay special attention to the revised drop off and pick up details for your children. As you can all appreciate, life under the new Level 2 conditions is quite different to 'normal' life within Korakonui.

I would also ask that families be patient and supportive of our staff over the next week, as we transition students back into school and adapt to school under the new Alert Level.

Please see information below:

At Alert Level 2, all children and young people can go to school.  The only exceptions are children who are sick or have any COVID-19 symptoms, are in isolation, or are waiting for the result of a test.

  • Parents must be contactable

We need to be able to contact you at any time during the school day.  If your contact details have changed please contact Faye office@korakonui.school.nz

  • Parents are discouraged from being onsite where possible (unless by appointment, escorting new students or in an emergency).

Any parents who do need to come on site will need to sign in using the sheets provided as well as use the Covid Tracing App and QR code on the gate.

  • Strictly no parents in classrooms

  • If your child is sick, stay home

If your child is feeling unwell they must stay at home.  We know there may be pressure to be back at work - but it is essential to the Health and Wellbeing of everyone on site.  If your child is sick they must stay home, and please notify us.  We are even busier than normal with all the extra health and safety requirements.  Please let us know if your child/ren will not be at school.

  • Safe hygiene practices

Safe hygiene practices as per the MOH and MOE guidelines will involve regular hand washing/sanitising and drying), coughing into your elbow and regular cleaning of commonly touched surfaces. There is no bubble concept at Alert Level 2, so there are no restrictions on groups of students mixing with others on site. Safe physical distancing and spacing is a good precaution to prevent the spread of disease. We will promote SAFE distancing and no touching where possible.

  • Named Water Bottles

All students will be required to bring a named drink bottle for water to school. There will be no drinking fountains available. Water bottles can be refilled at school. There is also no sharing of food.

  • No hugging

We understand that our students will be excited to see their friends and teachers. Can you please discuss the importance of staying out of other people's moist breath zone.

  • There are only two gates into the school.  The top gate by the MPR and the bottom gate by the bus shelters.

Drop off and pick up:

  • If your only child is in Te Kawa or Mangatutu Hub, your parking/drop off point and entry point is the bus shelter gate.

  • If your child is in Mangatutu Hub and has siblings, your parking/drop off point and entry point is the gate by the multipurpose room.  Older siblings will be asked to collect their younger sibling and bring them up to the top gate.

  • If your child is in Ngahape, WharepÅ«hunga or Bayley your parking, drop off point and entry point is the gate by the multipurpose room.

  • A teacher will be on duty at each gate before and after school. Students will need to use either the sanitiser dispensers or the soap available at each gate.  There will also be a sensitive soap option for those students who get skin irritations.

  • All students need to be collected from school by 3:10pm, otherwise they will need to be booked into Kora Care.

  • Masks are not mandatory but are optional for adults and students to wear- as per ministry guidelines

  • It is safe for children to share resources, books, sports gear etc. as they will be regularly washing their hands

  • Playgrounds are safe to open for children and shared sports equipment is safe to play with.

  • There will be no school assemblies under level 2 due to restrictions on gatherings.

  • School resources

If you have received any school resources over the lockdown these are required to be back at school on Monday eg. pencils, scissors, readers, laptops etc.

  • Bus students

Hand sanitisers will be available for each student to use as they board the vehicle and must use soap/sanitiser when they disembark at school.

Vehicles and surfaces will be sanitised after each journey by the transport company.

Physical Distancing – There are situations where physical distancing is not possible, such as school bus transport. In these situations extra emphasis on handwashing and drying (or cleansing with hand sanitiser) before and after activities and regular cleaning of equipment is very important.

Seats in close proximity to the driver will be left empty.

All bus runs will be operational.

In order that all students feel safe travelling on the school buses it is essential that all students display safe and sensible behaviour.

Students who are unable to comply with this will be removed from the bus as per the Bus Code of Conduct Agreement.

  • Kora Care

Kora Care will be back up and running from Thursday. The same health and safety rules will be adhered to as above. Please make sure you contact Faye at the office to book in your child's spot.

We are looking forward to seeing all the children on Thursday.

Kind Regards,
Nat Burrows & the Korakonui Team
