Monday 25 March

Kia ora koutou,

Another fantastic fortnight at Kōrakonui School has flown by! It is lovely to see our students happy, busy and loving the awesome opportunities our kura provides! The highlights for this fortnight include Lower Waipa Swimming Sports and our school gala.

A huge thank you to all parents for their support at the Lower Waipa Swimming Sports and to Miss Powell for her amazing organisation! We had a really competitive team swimming at the Te Awamutu Events Centre and achieved some outstanding results! The encouragement and enthusiasm from our whānau truly made a difference. Congratulations to all the students who participated; your dedication and sportsmanship were commendable and it was awesome to see you so enthusiastically representing Kōrakonui School.

At Friday’s assembly we presented our certificates and trophies for swimming sports, including the trophies for our senior boy and girl champion swimmers. A huge congratulations to Hunter McGillivray who is our champion boy for 2024 and to Samantha Ryan (for the second year in a row) who is our champion girl. You are both amazing swimmers and very deserving winners of these trophies.

A big thank you to everyone for making our school gala a resounding success! It was fantastic to witness the wider community coming together for a night of fun and fundraising. Your support ensured a successful event that raised valuable funds to subsidise our school trips and camps, ensuring our school can continue to provide enriching experiences for our students.

As we approach the Easter break, please note that students will be off from this Friday until Wednesday, April 3rd. We hope everyone enjoys a restful and joyful Easter holiday with their loved ones.

Looking ahead to the rest of the term, we have more exciting events lined up! Our school will be competing at the Fred Amess Football Tournament on Friday, April 5th, followed by our eagerly anticipated Colour Run on Thursday, April 11th.

We have had a huge number of students put themselves forward to take part in the Fred Amess Cup, which is fantastic to see! With the number of teams we’re planning to field, we are still in need of further support, needing more parents to coach or manage a team and also to provide transport. If you’re able to help, please contact us.

The Colour Run is our major fundraiser for the year, with all profits going towards subsidising class camps and trips across the school. We kindly urge everyone to generously support this event, ensuring that all our students can benefit from enriching experiences beyond the classroom.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Kōrakonui really is a special part of the world and our school and students really benefit from the amazing support our community provides.

Ngā mihi nui,

Tom Cochrane

A beautiful evening for our Gala!
A huge thank you to everyone for your amazing support of our school gala on Friday evening. It was awesome to have such a great turn out and to see everyone having such a great time!

Our aim was to bring our community together to connect, to provide an opportunity for the community to meet our new staff, and lastly to provide a fun event for our students. The awesome feedback we’ve received suggests we were really successful with all three goals, and as a bonus, early indications show it has also been a successful fundraiser to subsidise class trips and camps for the year.

A special thank you to Pak n Save Te Awamutu, Silver Fern Farms and Vetora for their sponsorship, and also to all our hard working staff for their efforts, to all our awesome helpers in the food tent, and to Kristel Takataka for her amazing face painting!

Parent Inteviews Tomorrow

Thank you for the fantastic response to our upcoming parent interviews.  The vast majority of our students now have interviews booked which is really pleasing to see. This is a great opportunity and we’re so happy to see whānau making the most of this event! For those who have not yet made a booking - bookings close at 11am tomorrow morning. Please book in via the Hero App, or contact the office. If you are unable to make a suitable booking, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to book an alternative time.

With all of our classroom teachers involved in parent interviews, we are only able to provide limited supervision for the afternoon. We would greatly appreciate it if whānau are able to collect their children before 1pm on the day.

Green House Tokens

Thank you to those who helped build up our house token stocks - we are still seeking green bottle tops please - red and blue are now plentiful. Thank you for dropping these off to the office.
